Understanding Road Marking Colours in India: A Complete Guide

Colour is not decoration. In India, white generally guides same-direction traffic and stop lines; yellow tightens overtaking and boxes junctions. Get the colour wrong and you have trained thousands of drivers into a hazard.

White

Lane lines, edge lines, zebras, stop lines and most arrows. Broken white may be crossed with care; solid white is a boundary.

Yellow

Centre-line restrictions, kerb no-parking, box junctions. Double yellow is a stronger message than a faint single stroke.

Specials

Blue and red appear in dedicated or high-warning zones. Rumble bars and hatched islands are geometry, not extra colour for fun. PS Road Marking Services paints to the drawing and IRC:35, then photographs the junction before opening traffic. hello@psroadmarking.in
